Israel’s new Ambassador to Mexico, Brig. David Shaltiel, has presented his credentials to Mexican President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines in a ceremony at the Palacio Nacional here. The new envoy also conveyed a message of warm regard to the Mexican chief of state from President Itzhak Ben Zvi of Israel. Also present at the presentation ceremony were Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Padilla Nervo and Yerachmiel Yaron, first secretary of the Israel Legation here.
In his new capacity, Brig. Shaltiel will serve as Israel’s diplomatic representative not only in this country, but in Cuba and all the Central American republics as well. At a press conference following the presentation of credentials, the Israeli envoy told newsmen to Israel’s desire for peace and cooperation with her Arab neighbors in the Middle East. His first official ceremonial act in his new capacity was the laying of a wreath at the monument to the heroes of the Mexican struggle for independence.
