All three political parties represented in the lower house of the Berlin municipal legislature proposed jointly yesterday that the city build a Jewish center for the local Jewish community.

The building would be a cultural center located on the site of the destroyed Fasanen-strasse Synagogue and would constitute a form of restitution for Jewish institutions razed by the Nazis. The motion, offered by the Social Democrats, Christian Democratic Union and Free Democrats, will be discussed at a coming meeting of the lower house and political observers expect it to pass.
