Turkey’s foremost anti-Semite, Djevat Rifat Atilhan, who has served several prison terms for anti-Semitic and ultra-nationalist activities and writings, has begun publishing a new monthly whose entire stock in trade is anti-Semitism and anti-Israel propaganda.
The unusual aspect of Atilhan’s new publication, “The Islamic United Nations,” is that it appears in English. It is believed that the monthly is sponsored by Arab circles. The leading article in the first issue urges the Arabs to unite “against all international forces, “including the Jews. A section on “World Press Comments” consists of culls of anti-Israel items from the foreign press.
Atilhan, a retired army colonel who fought the British in Palestine in World War I, tried to recruit a Turkish force to aid the Arab states in the Israel War of Independence, but failed because of Turkish Government opposition. He then turned to publishing anti-Jewish and anti-Israel books and newspapers, which the government suppresses and for which he is tossed into jail periodically.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
