Syrian Ambassador Farid Zeineddine yesterday blamed a “Zionist internationals” and the “Zionist power behind the throne” for influencing the American-British-French opposition to Egypt’s seizure of the Suez Canal.

Attacking the American stand on Suez, Mr. Zeineddine said: “For the United States the issue is NATO, Zionism and the need to continue the domination of the Middle East by Western allies of the United States and its influential and guiding Zionist friends.” He added that “for Zionism the real issue is to keep the Arabs down, so as to consolidate previous Zionist expansion and ensure future expansion in accordance with basic Zionist philosophy and strategy.”

“The real issue in the mind of the three powers and the Zionist power behind the throne is to oppose the trend of the Arab nation toward liberation,” the Syrian envoy continued. He charged the United States, Britain, and France had “Zionist guides or teachers” and were led partly by the “Zionist internationals centered mainly in the United States.”
