Hebrew inscriptions on artifacts dating to the period of the Jewish Kings, sculpture of the Canaanite period, and an alabaster incense vessel dating to 13th Century B.C.E. are among finds announced here today as a result of the current season’s diggings at Hatzor.
Dr. Yigal Yadin, noted archaeologist and former Chief of Staff of the Israel Army, revealed that the Hebrew inscriptions of the period of the Kings are the first of their kind ever uncovered in Northern Israel and are of considerable archaeological value.
Among the vessels uncovered in the diggings was a fragment of a water jug bearing the word “Lemachbiram” in Hebrew lettering. It is thought that the inscription refers to the name of a man and the word itself has a definitely authentic Hebrew ring.
