U.S. Concerned About Fate of Jewish and Other Refugees Inside China

State Department officials today expressed concern over reports that 13,000 European refugees–many of them German Jews who fled the Nazis–might be stranded inside Communist China and prevented from resettling in countries offering asylum. The refugees may be trapped inside China because of the Communist seizure of the U.N. refugee office in Shanghai last May.
