The South African Zionist Federation concluded its biennial conference here today with an appeal to South African Jewry to “fulfill its responsibility to Israel” by rallying to the support of the Jewish State and by “mobilizing the fullest measure of devotion and strength for its well-being and security.”

The parley adopted a resolution paying tribute to the South African Government for the “friendship and understanding consistently shown toward Israel and the Zionist movement.” Another resolution urged chambers of commerce throughout the Union to “resist Arab pressure towards discrimination against Jewish citizens.”

The conference voted to launch the next United Israel Appeal in February and ratified measures to stimulate South African-Israel trade, and emigration to Israel. It approved plans for youth volunteer services for a year or two in the Israel border settlements.

Israel Dunsky was unanimously reelected as chairman of the Federation. The new executive will comprise seven General Zionists, six Zionist-Socialists, five Revisionists, three Mizrachi and four non-party Zionists.
