Dr. Merdecai Levy, Eisenhower Exchange Fellow from Israel, yesterday presented President Eisenhower with the original” manuscript of a revolutionary discovery developed at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. The presentation was made during a meeting at the White House which was attended by newly-arrived Eisenhower Fellows from all parts of the world.
Dr. Levy, academic secretary of the Technion, explained that the manuscript is the work of Prof, Markus Reiner, who heads the institute’s Rheological Laboratory, and is the result of a research project carried out in Israel under the sponsorship of the United States Air Force.
In his paper. Prof. Reiner reported the construction of a centripetal pump, and indicated that this may have a revolutionary effect on planning in various phases of aeronautical engineering, particularly in the design of guided missiles. Prof. Reiner, in his experiments, completed construction of an all-metal centripetal pump which is used as a compressor. As a result of Dr. Reiner’s initial success, the U.S. Air Force renewed its research contract with the Technion for another year.
