The great increase in the number of immigrants arriving in recent weeks and those anticipated in the months ahead may force the Jewish Agency to break out tents again to temporarily house newcomers, according to Abraham Ziegel. director in the Agency’s absorption department.
Next month 150 to 200 families will be moved into temporary tin huts located near the site where permanent homes for them are going up. Some 23, 000 immigrants are expected in April and May, Mr. Ziegel revealed, and 22,716 arrived in 1957.
