Lee M. Friedman, noted authority on American Jewish history and member of the American Bar Association, died here at the age of 85. He was the past president of the American Jewish Historical Society and honorary president of the Jewish Publication Society of America.

Born in Memphis, he came to Boston at an early age. He was graduated from the Harvard Law School in 1895. Among the books he wrote are “Early American Jews, “; “Jewish Pioneers and Patriots, “; “Pilgrims in a New Land” and others. He was a member of the executive of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations.
