The Canadian Government’s policy on immigration which has come in for considerable criticism in recent weeks, was explained here by Government spokesmen to a conference of voluntary organizations and Church groups as representing, not a change of policy and curtailment of immigration, but as the usual slowdown of immigration before the winter months, it was disclosed today.
Acting Minister of Citizenship and Immigration D. Fulton, presided at the conference. Col. Laval Fortier, the deputy minister, and ranking officials of the department also attended. The Canadian Jewish Congress and the Jewish Immigrant Aid Society (JIAS) were among the participating organizations.
