The Association of Israelis of Yugoslavian Origin today urged the Argentine Government to consider Yugoslavia’s request for the extradition of Ante Pavelich, Croatian Nazi responsible for the murder of hundreds of Yugoslavian Jews during World War II.
The appeal was made in a memorandum submitted to Buenos Aires through Dr. Gregorio Topolevsky, Argentine Ambassador to Israel. The Yugoslav settlers said in the memorandum that every one of the 7, 000 families in the Yugoslav Jewish community have lost at least one relative as a result of Pavelich’s activities.
The bid was made in the hope that the new Argentine regime would be more sympathetic to the appeal than was President Peron’s Government which consistently evaded extradition requests by claiming it knew nothing of Pavelich’s whereabouts. The memorandum also noted that an assassination attempt five months ago put Pavelich in a Buenos Aires hospital.
