TETUAN, Morocco (Sep. 30)
Si Embarek Bekkai, Premier of Morocco, promised again last night that in the newly-independent Moslem country there would be no discrimination against any citizen on account of religion or race. Si Bekkai spoke at a reception given by the Jewish Community of Tetuan on the occasion of the Sultan’s visit to this city.
Addressing his remarks to the entire Jewish community of Tetuan, the Premier commended them for their patriotic attitude during the critical period which led to Morocco’s independence. He said that the Sultan “stands for tolerance, liberty and democracy.” In respect to Morocco’s lack of discrimination, the Premier boasted, “we can proudly set an example to other countries which have won their independence earlier than ourselves.”
Special prayers were recited in Tetuan’s synagogues for the Sultan and members of his family during his visit to the city.
