General Zionists, Herut Support Ben Zvi’s Re-election As President

The two major opposition parties in Israel indicated support today for the re-election of Itzhak Ben Zvi as President. This left only the Communist Party in the declared position of abstaining on the forthcoming election of Israel. Chief Executive. No opposition candidate has made an appearance.

The General Zionist Party, after two days of deliberations, decided to second the nomination of Mr. Ben Zvi. The Herut has decided to send a delegation to visit Mr. Ben Zvi and offer its support on condition that the law governing the presidency be changed to require that upon nomination every presidential candidate renounce his party affiliation. Mr. Ben Zvi is a member of the Mapai Party.
