The prediction that Los Angeles would soon be recognized as a major center of Jewish culture was made here tonight by Dr. Jacob R. Marcus director of the American Jewish Archives and president of the American Jewish Historical Society.
Lecturing under the auspices of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and the local College of Jewish Studies, Dr. Marcus said Los Angeles had “no choice but to become a great center of Jewish culture and life because it was already the second largest Jewish community in the world.” Los Angeles will be a city of Jewish colleges and schools of newspapers and publishing houses and of exemplary social and service institutions Dr. Marcus asserted.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
