B’nai B’rith “israel Night” in N.Y. Brings $501,000 in Israel Bonds

More than $501,000 in Israel bond investment capital for the economic development of Israel was raised last night by the Metropolitan Council of B’nai B’rith at an all-star “Israel Night” held at the Metropolitan Opera House here. A capacity audience filled the Met to see top performers of the concert and entertainment world and to hear Simcha Pratt, Consul General of Israel in New York, report on the progress made by Israel.

A special committee of leading New Yorkers prominent in national, state and city affairs, has been organized to sponsor a tenth anniversary salute to the State of Israel at the annual Chanukah Festival at Madison Square Garden on December 16 and 23, it was announced today by Dr. Israel Goldstein, chairman of the Chanukah Festival Committee. Serving as honorary chairmen of the committee are: Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, former U.S. Senator Herbert H. Lehman. Governor Averell Harriman, U.S. Senators Jacob K. Javits and Irving M. Ives, Mayor Robert F. Wagner, James G. McDonald, former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, and Abraham Feinberg, president of the Israel Bond Organization, which is arranging the celebration.
