Bonn’s Minister of Finance, Franz Etzel, publicly pledged today that the West German Republic would honor all its obligations under the Federal Indemnification Law.

Herr Etzel made his promise during testimony before a parliamentary committee here. He answered recent criticism, initiated by Justice Minister Fritz Schaeffer, that the claims for compensation by victims of Nazism would be so burdensome as to devaluate Germany’s currency. Herr Etzel said it was too early to estimate the actual cost of compensation to the nation.
