Jewish Appeal Dinner Brings $1,700,000 in Chicago; Addressed by Warburg

The sum of $1,700,000 was contributed here by guests attending the inaugural dinner of the Combined Jewish Appeal of Metropolitan Chicago which has a local goal of $10,000,000. Edward M. M. Warburg, chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee and national leader of the United Jewish Appeal, was the principal speaker.

Mr. Warburg stressed that “Israel’s facilities and resources have been overwhelmed by the vast influx of newcomers.” He urged utmost support for the continuing task of saving and rebuilding lives, helping to provide homes, farms, jobs and schools necessary to bring scores of thousands of Israel’s newcomers all the way to freedom.”
