BAYREUTH, Germany (May. 13)
Paul Vollrath, 59-year-old former Nazi district leader, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment here yesterday upon his conviction of having attempted to murder Rabbi Moshe Rosenau in 1938. The court credited him time spent in prison awaiting trial and freed the ex-Nazi.
Witnesses, including the daughter of Rabbi Rosenau, testified that Vollrath had lined up the rabbi, his wife and daughter against a synagogue wall and fired two shots at the rabbi, one of which inflicted a serious wound. Vollrath shouted that he had vowed to kill the first Jew he met.
