Israel Deports Escaped American Convict Sought by F.b.i.

The Israel interior Ministry issued a deportation order today against William Jacobs, 36, escaped Sing convict sought by the FBI. He was ordered expelled within 24 hours.

Jacobs, who has a long record of convictions including armed robberies, was serving a 30-year sentence when the escaped. In March he applied for permanent residence, offering a Moroccan passport in the name of David Shitreet.

An official suspected his story and, in the course of questioning, learned that he was an Ashkenazi Jew not a Sephardic Jew. An investigation turned up wanted circulars with Jacob’s description and photographs. Tel Aviv police, who picked up Jacobs, said that he had committed no crimes in Israel.
