The terrible massacre of Jews in Nazi-occupied Yugoslavia–60,000 of a pre-war population of 70,000 were wiped out–has been described for the first time in a well documented volume just published in an English translation.”
The book, “The Crimes of the Fascist Occupants and Their Collaborators Against the Jews of Yugoslavia,” was compiled by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav Government aided the Federation with the compilation of documentary evidence and with publication.
In documents and photographs, many published for the first time, the book paints a picture of torture and murder of men, women and children. Some of the collaborators held responsible in the crimes are still at large, including Adrija Artukovic, Minister of Interior in the Nazi puppet state of Croatia, whose extradition is currently being argued in a hearing in Los Angeles.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
