Tel Aviv’s grocery stores will shut their doors on Thursday in a 12-hour demonstration strike against the opening here of a giant American-style supermarket which is scheduled to open on Thursday morning. The new supermarket is the first of 20 which are expected to revolutionize the retail food industry in this country.
Earlier this week, angry Tel Aviv grocers, who see the supermarkets as a threat to their livelihood, demonstrated for two hours near the new shop and tried to smash its windows.
