British and Israeli defense officials today concluded their secret talks here on Israel’s request for arms from Britain. A statement issued jointly by the British Foreign Office and the Israel Embassy said:
“Mr. Shimon Peres, director general of Israel’s Defense Ministry, has had conversations in this country during the past three days on technical and supply matters. The talks which were confidential, were both friendly and satisfactory.”
Diplomatic sources in London said earlier this week that Britain is ready to help equip the Israel Navy for anti-submarine warfare. Israel is worried by the growing fleet of submarines provided by Russia to the United Arab Republic.
