A “Jewish Property Trust Society, ” was formed here today to negotiate with the Government of Poland for the return of certain Jewish property stolen by the Nazis during the occupation of Poland. The negotiations will affect only that property which does not fall within the categories nationalized by Polish post-war legislation.
The trust society was organized on the initiative of the World Jewish Congress and the Polish Immigrants Association of Israel.
Under Polish legislation of 1945, property owners living abroad had to submit a detailed application asking for the property. Thousands of Jews did so, but have not yet received their property. However, most Jews outside Poland who were eligible to file claims never did so before the deadline expired. The trust society plans to seek an extension of that deadline.
