Toronto Jewish Pupils to Leave School During Religious Instruction

Jewish parents in this city were urged to have their children absent themselves from school during the period of religious instruction. A statement by J. Irving Oelbaum, leader in the Canadian Jewish Congress, reminded Jewish parents that Jewish children have this right of exemption.

He urged that this right be exercised “as a demonstrative gesture to the schools and to the government symbolic of the continuing dissenting opinion of the Jewish community in this important matter of conscience.”
