Premier David Ben Gurion called last night on more young women of Israel to join Nahal, the army’s soldier-farmer corps. Addressing the fourth Nahal national rally, the Premier said that only half as many girls as young men joined the corps, which is stationed in Israel’s border areas in new settlement. He called this an “untenable” situation.

The corps’ commander, Col. Itamar Ben Barak, told the rally that a number of foreign nations are studying Nahal’s structure with an eye to introducing similar units. These countries, he said, include Burma, Ghana, Liberia and the Philippines.
