Isaac Schneerson, guiding force behind the Jewish Documentation Center and originator of the idea of the World Memorial to the Unknown Jewish Martyr, which stands in Paris, was awarded today the ribbon of the Legion of Honor. M. Schneerson began collecting documents on the fate of French and European Jewry during the Nazi occupation when, as a member of the Resistance, he had access to documents captured from the Germans.
