Messages of greeting were sent to Pope John XXIII this week-end by Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie and by the headquarters here of the World Union for Progressive Judaism.

“May you continue your noble and dedicated service to humanity for many years,” Rabbi Brodie’s cable to the Pontiff declared. The World Union’s message expressed the hope that the Pope’s “service may be of benefit and bring peace to all mankind.”

All of Rabbi Brodie’s engagements for the next two months were cancelled today, on account of ill health. He will enter a hospital for treatment and then take a trip to South Africa for rest and relaxation.
