Israeli Charge d’Affaires Yaacov Herzog paid tribute this week-end to Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt at an Israel bond dinner here. Some $200,000 was raised at the dinner.

Mr. Herzog said Mrs. Roosevelt had become a “legend in her own lifetime through her dedication to humanity.” He stressed that no other woman has made contributions of such dimensions to Israel-American friendship.

Mrs. Roosevelt said her recent visit to the Soviet Union further convinced her that support of Israel is vital to block Communist penetration of the Near East. She said Israel was the most reliable democratic nation in the region and the Israelis the only people in the region who have known real freedom. She called for increased economic support of Israel in the interest of the United States and the free world.
