Former Senator Herbert H. Lehman declared tonight that Israel, as “one of the chief stays and bulwarks of the cause of freedom in the Middle East,” is serving to preserve the integrity of Jordan and is “helping to contain the destructive tidal wave of Soviet-supported Nasserism.”

In an address delivered before 800 communal, civic and religious leaders at an Israel bond dinner here, the former Senator called for the inclusion of Israel “in the regional defense system of the Atlantic community, the Mediterranean and Middle East.” He urged the Soviet Union to agree “to the neutralization of the Arab world and to guarantee the territorial integrity of all the Arab states and of Israel.” Bonds valued at $1,000,000 were sold at the dinner.
