NEW YORK (Nov. 24)
The opening of the Herbert H. Lehman Institute at the Theological Seminary of America was marked here last night by a dinner at which 500 guests honored former Senator Lehman. The Institute is dedicated to the study of the ethics of the Talmud to gain insight into contemporary problems.
Sen. John F. Kennedy of Massachusetts, the chief speaker at the function, praised the leadership qualities of Sen. Lehman, “the ardor of his ideals and the vast dimensions of his wisdom.” These qualities made Sen. Lehman “one of the great public servants of our time,” Sen. Kennedy said. Lewis L. Strauss, newly-designated Secretary of Commerce in President Eisenhower’s Cabinet, presided.
