More than $105,000,000 was raised in the Canadian Jewish community for local, overseas and Israel needs during the years between 1933 and 1957, the Canadian Jewish Congress reported here today.
Of the total, a CJC study revealed, $47,000,000 went to Israel–plus $19,000,000 in Israel bond sales since 1953. Additionally, $19,000,000 was used for overseas relief, $4,000,000 went to national organizations and $35,000,000 to local projects. These sums do not include monies raised for synagogues and membership organizations through fees and donations.
The sums raised annually increased from $525,000 in 1933 to a peak of $8,400,000 in 1949, dropped again to $6,800,000 in 1952 and soared to $8,800,000 in 1957, the last year for which full figures are available.
