Col. Nasser, President of the United Arab Republic, today told a cheering audience of Egyptians in Port Said that he intends to continue his fight against Israel and that he considers “the Zionists, Israelis and reactionaries” the worst enemies of the Arab people. “We fought Israel and reactionary powers in the past and we will do it in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, a number of influential Conservative members of the British Parliament were seen here today apparently following the lead of most British Labor party leaders vociferously clamoring for an “understanding” with the “West’s best friend in the Middle East–President Nasser.”
Most observers here felt this did not imply that Britain would drop her comprehension of Israel’s problems, although it was felt that Britain might begin to help the United Arab Republic both economically and financially.
