The request for funds to finance the anticipated immigration of 100,000 Rumanian Jews this year was extended today to new sections of the Israel public, including the army and employes of major industries.
Assessments of armed forces personnel for contributions to the Israel immigration loan were announced as 25 Israeli pounds for a private to up to 300 pounds for senior officers. Workers at an electric company announced they had pledged 1,500,000 Israeli pounds for the loan and 50,000 pounds was contributed by workers of insurance companies.
It was also announced that the central committee for the immigration loan will meet this week in Tel Aviv with Prime Minister David Ben Gurion who will hear reports on contributions to the loan and make plans for additional subscriptions.
Meanwhile, officials of the Ministry of Trade and Industry arrived in Beersheba today to study plans to establish a diamond polishing industry to give work to 1,000 new immigrants to be settled in the Negev. It was also announced that the Kor factory at Beersheba plans to build a new ceramics plant at a cost of 1,500,000 pounds and that 2,000 new housing units will be constructed in the city.
