Tripolitania, one of the three provinces in Libya, is drawing up new regulations governing the Jewish community in that area, to replace laws that have been in force since the period when Libya was ruled by Italy.
An announcement that the Italian laws are to be wiped out was made here this weekend by the Libyan embassy. The embassy also denied that there was an investigation under way regarding the finances of the entire Jewish community of Libya. Such a probe, said the embassy’s statement, is being directed only into the books and financial accounts of the Jewish Community Organization of Tripolitania, where charges of mishandling of funds have been made.
