Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt had a prompt reply today to the question “Why do you keep coming to Israel?” posed to her by a group of Socialist youth leaders participating in the International Socialist Youth Leaders Seminar here.
She replied that she was impressed by the “remarkable spirit and progress” of Israel against the background of the many difficulties caused by “unfriendly surroundings.” She added that she was speaking as a private citizen, and that her views did not represent those of the United States Government. The questioners represented Tanganyika, Burma, Jamica, India and West Germany.
