Jewish residents of St. Louis, Mo., have a 14 percent lower overall mortality rate than white St. Louisians as a whole, according to a study published in Public Health Reports.
Studying the period 1955-1957, statistics showed that Jews reached a greater mean age at death–66.7 years as compared with 64.4 years for their non-Jews and some were much lower. Cirrhosis of the liver was 72 percent lower and tuberculosis 80 percent lower.
