The National Council of Young Israel “will explore the possibility of joining the World Zionist Organization, ” it was announced here today by Elijah Stein, newly-elected president of the organization.

The announcement was made following the 47th annual Young Israel convention which was addressed by Moshe Shapiro, former member of the Israel Cabinet, who called upon the organization “to contribute to Israel the same program of traditional Jewry that it has given to America. “

The convention was also addressed by Dr. Judd Teller, political secretary of the Jewish Agency. He outlined Young Israel’s positive program of Judaism and indicated that by joining the World Zionist Organization, the orthodox voice would have greater strength on the American and Israeli scene.

Reports on the Kashrut situation in America were discussed at the convention. Rabbinical bodies were called upon to desist from individual endorsements and to organize themselves into a community kashrut board. The convention decided, among other projects, to develop a scholarship program to help foster Yeshiva education on the American scene.
