Israel Reports Increase in Production of Copper and Phosphates

Production of copper, phosphates and other raw materials in the Dead Sea area increased last year by 11 percent, as compared to the preceding year, it was announced here today by Minister of Development Mordechai Bentov. Production of these materials in 1958 reached 679, 000 tons, said Mr. Bentov.

Production of electricity in the country, the Development Minister said, increased last year by 19 percent, by comparison with 1957. Exports of the chemical and metallurgical products, Mr. Bentov said, increased last year by 13 percent, reaching a value of 11,000,000 Israeli pounds ($6, 050,000). Mr. Bentov foresaw still further growth in production and development in Israel.
