Despite powerful barriers against emigration, at least half of Morocco’s 200,000 Jews want to come to Israel to join families here, it was learned reliably today. Since the establishment of Israel, about 120,000 Moroccan Jews have come here.
Official Moroccan declarations concerning free immigration actually do not apply to Jews. Since Jewish applicants for travel visas are suspect, many bora fide business-men are refused such facilities because of Government fears they will go to Israel once they leave Morocco.
Reports have reached here of cases in which Jews have not been allowed to return to Morocco if they visited Israel during an overseas trip.
