A Beirut newspaper was quoted today by the Israeli press as reporting that half of Lebanon’s 5,000 Jews have left Lebanon “in a panic.” Israel sources confirmed that a “number” of Lebanese Jews had relinquished their properties and emigrated to other countries.

“Kul Sheye,” the Beirut paper, cited Lebanese Security sources for its report and expressed satisfaction that the Jewish section of Beirut had been half-emptied. “We will not regret it if another half of Lebanese Jews will leave the country.” the paper said, adding: “It is better that they leave on their own at the earliest opportunity than wait until we shall ask them to leave when we might get in trouble with the United Nations.”
