After a stormy debate, the Senate today approved a resolution solemnly deploring the recent anti-Semitic incidents in this country. Leading the opposition to the resolution were the senators representing the neofancist Movimento Sociale Italiano, one of whose leaders insisted that “fascism always honored and respected the Jews.”
The Roman Bar Association’s ruling general assembly today voted a resolution expressing the organization’s “vibrant protest against the recent anti-Semitic outbreaks in Rome and elsewhere in Italy.” The resolution declared the manifestations “a sign of uncivility and an outrage to the memory of those Jewish citizens who mixed their blood with the blood of other martyrs in the common holocaust.”
A large mass meeting was held at the city’s largest theater, Yeatro Valle, last night, protesting against the recent anti-Semitic manifestations. The sponsors of the meeting included all of Italy’s major political parties, labor organizations and youth groups.
