Soviet Ambassador Michael Bodrov was received here yesterday by Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s Foreign Minister, for a 45-minute talk. The Soviet envoy requested the meeting following instructions he received from Moscow. A similar meeting was held Sunday evening in Cairo between the Soviet Ambassador there and Foreign Minister Mahmoud Fawzi of the United Arab Republic.

Informed sources here said that the talk between Mrs. Meir and the Soviet envoy was on routine matters and was not connected with the Middle East situation. However, the Cairo radio said that the talk between the Soviet Ambassador there and the UAR Foreign Minister had to do with tensions in the Middle East.

(A report from Cairo today stated that the Soviet Ambassador in the Egyptian capital discussed the Israel-Syrian border situation with the UAR Foreign Minister. The New York Times reported today from Cairo that it is believed there that the Soviet Union is seeking “to soothe Arab and Israeli passions. “)
