The House today passed a civil rights bill that included a measure that would make it a federal crime to cross a state line to escape prosecution for bombing or threatening to bomb any building or vehicle. This could be used against the “hate bombers” of synagogues, churches and schools. The bill was passed by a vote of 311 to 109.
The House yesterday rejected a proposal that would have made it a federal crime to transport explosives from one state to another with intent to use them in bombing synagogues, churches or schools. The civil rights bill was sent to the Senate.The Senate immediately referred it to the Judiciary Committee with instructions to report it back not later than Tuesday.
