National Jewish organizations in the United States were called upon today to participate in a conference for establishment of an American Jewish Assembly as a permanent, democratic representative body of the American Jewish community. A resolution urging this action was adopted here by the 31st annual convention of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, an affiliate of the United Synagogue of America.
The convention also voted to establish a commission on social accent to advise its membership on matters of concern, and to recommend measures to further social welfare.
Bernard Rackmil, of Cedarhurst, N.Y., was elected honorary president; Morris R. Spelfogel, of Brookline. Mass., president; and Rabbi Joel S. Geffen, of New York, national spiritual advisor.
