Sen. Kennedy States His Views on Suez Blockade and Arab Refugee Issue

Addressing representatives of the foreign language press here, Senator John F. Kennedy, Democratic candidate for President, said that the Suez Canal must be open to all nations, including Israel. He urged Arabs to recognize the fact that “Israel is here to stay.”

The Presidential candidate said that he supports the idea of speeding up the resettlement of Arab refugees in the Middle East, He emphasized that “Israel cannot accept them all” and stated that some arid Arab lands could be made productive by water development projects enabling them to absorb larger populations.
