A request that the Canadian Government open negotiations with Poland for payment to Canadian citizens for property nationalized or otherwise appropriated by the Polish Government, has been renewed by the Canadian Jewish Congress, it was disclosed here today.
The CC first made the request in 1958 to Prime Minister John G. Diefenbaker. Representations were also made to the Polish Embassy’s charge d’affaires here, at the time, by Saul Hayes, CJC executive vice-president. Both approaches pointed out that Canadian citizens were being discriminated against in this respect, while Poland has recognized similar claims from citizens of the United States and Britain.
