A Negro labor union here today purchased $11,000 worth of State of Israel bonds “in appreciation of the technical aid Israel is giving to underdeveloped new nations in Africa.” The purchase was announced by James Jeter, secretary-treasurer of Local 74 of the International Hod Carriers and Builders Union, who said the move was initiated by the president of the local, Walter Boyce, Jr.

In turning over the $11,000 check to Dr. Seymour Alpert, chairman of the Israel Bond campaign in Washington, Mr. Jeter stated that his union felt “Israel’s program of assistance to the newly independent states of Africa and Asia is a vital factor inhaling these young nations to achieve economic stability under democratic self government.”
