Discussions concerning claims of Jewish victims of Nazi persecution in Austria were held here with Austrian Foreign Minister, Dr. Bruno Kreisky, and the Finance Minister, Dr. Heilingsetzer, who are now in New York attending the United Nations General Assembly, it was reported today.
A delegation under the chairmanship of Dr. Nahum Goldmann reiterated its disappointment over the failure of the Austrian Parliament to enact certain compensation measures which were before it for more than a year.
The delegation strongly urged the Austrian Government to eliminate all provisions in a proposed major amendment to the Austrian indemnification law which would discriminate against former Austrian victims of Nazi persecution who reside outside of Austria. The vast majority of surviving Austrian Jews are now citizens of those countries which have given them a haven. The delegation also stressed the need to increase the proposed standard for compensation.
