Israeli President Ishak Ben-Zvi sent greetings today to the Shah of Iran on the occasion of the birth of the Shah’s son. The greetings were inscribed on a parchment scroll, along with verses of the prophecy of Cyrus from the book of Yeshayahu. The new heir will be given the names of Reza and Cyrus.
On Monday night, 60,000 Israelis of Persian origin celebrated the birth of the Iranian Crown Prince. Free drinks were Served by restaurant owners of Persian origin.
Although no formal diplomatic relations exist between Israel and Iran, trade and cultural relations between the two countries are expanding. There was a marked increase in such relations after Nasser’s recent attacks on the Shah, and Cairo’s incitement calling on the Persian people to revolt. This week, a top official of the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture left for Teheran to negotiate the establishment of experimental cotton growing farms in Iran, staffed with Israeli advisers.
